Origin and History
Modern Kees were the 2nd production variant that Kenko distributed and the first that was capable of reproduction. Four prototype variants predated the production variants, all of which were made in single digit batches. The Kenko Evolved program received subsidies from the Cooperative Estates of Ura Herschelia and the True Light of Sol.
Kenko Evolved was developed with a budget spacer philosophy. The intended market was that of first generation space dwelling families and working class households. The genome was uninvasive to implant and relatively cheap, especially compared to the other products offered by Kenko Cybernetics.
Biology
KEs are robust and disease resistant, adapting many traits common to other hyper humans (improved sinuses, eyes, vestibular senses, hearing). They have deployable receptors in the back of the neck, originally designed to supplement their biosynthetic neural systems. Raised receptors are also a sign of irritation.
Kennies have bright pigmentation beneath their eyes, a trait that was a major aesthetic choice for Kenko Cybernetics in the original design. This prototype patch of chromatically variable skin was a test organ for future variants that might coat the entire body. The gene freeze ensured that this development never continued, but some of their competitors came very close to a true chameleon-skinned human variant. KEs have very little control over the pigmentation. The colors often fluctuate with mood or environmental changes.
KE’s reproduce sexually, much like baseline humanity, resulting in wide genetic variance.
Culture and Demographics
KE’s are the 25th listed transhuman subspecies recognized by the Tichordia Concord. The genome is numerous, with over 5.3 million individuals distributed throughout Sol, filling all walks of life. There is no one faction accounting for all members of the genome, but Kees commonly share a sense of pride in their lineage.
Like most genomes represented within the Tichordea Concord, there is a Kees embassy at Haumea.
Notable Individuals
Graces Prima Tressa S. Corvine – First indoctrinated KE into the Turnship of Blood. Prima Corvine is best known for her “Hunger of the Reach” speech in 2351 and her subsequent healthcare campaign throughout Neptune sphere from 2352-2368. Prima Corvine is considered a Kuiper Alliance humanitarian and a hero within the Turnship of Blood for her work in eradicating the CER34-1 plague.
Byrep Janis – A pilot who, in 2349, diverted the brighttorch Jewel of Sirius Major away from Bathapie, a major orbital in Ariel-sphere, when it became apparent that the ship’s drive was no longer controllable. Through careful piloting Byrep was able to navigate the fusion rocket out of controlled space, then position it for later rescue.
Seguline P. Halt – A Chrysalis Union council member who was appointed to the first intervention hearing of the Tichordia Concord. Seg Halt is credited with mediating the conflict between the Republic and the Jovian states, preventing further escalation.
