Collective States of Uranus

Much like the Neptunian system, Ura is a sprawling ecosystem of diverse factions and motivations. Ura is considered to be a cultural and political microcosm that mirrors the independence and heterogeneity of the Kuiper Alliance, but ultimately rejected the affiliation with the higher orbits in all but a few exclusive spheres. For the most part, the cold sphere of Ura acts with divided autonomy, distancing itself from the larger solar system players.

The Uranian system was settled simultaneously with the Saturnian system. The first expeditions to the moons of Ura were governed by Earth based companies. Most either established dependencies, collapsed or transitioned to civilian leadership. This was made especially tumultuous by the fact that the Republic of First World was still in it’s infancy and the military enforcement capabilities were severely lacking in the outer solar system. It was difficult to enforce claims, boundaries and disagreements. A rift would grow as industrial conglomerates over Ura lost faith in the RFW’s ability to govern beyond the so-called Division of 90… the politically charged concept, manifested in the 2250s, that Luna couldn’t adequately respond to anything beyond 90 light minutes.

The vacuum that persisted in the early years allowed corporate entities to flourish with unchecked impunity. Ura sphere gave rise to vast commercial empires. Industrial cities dotted the inclined orbits, churning out the machines of deep space expansion. A helium and gas harvesting sector emerged, but never quite grasped the market beyond the Uranian system. Still, there were plenty of other business budding amongst the moons.

The genespree really began in the young commercial empires of Titania and the ring states. Great forays of genetic engineering took place in these early days of transhumanism. Labs, driven by desperate commercial motivations, refined gene editing techniques, developed new biosynth materials and pushed the limits of organic tissues. Synthetic synapses, organic cybernetics, bioweave bone, cartilage, muscle, grown composites and more were all refined in these facilities as companies jostled to produce the perfect, most marketable human prototypes.

The Tichordia Concord of 2276 ended many companies that were deeply invested in the gene industry. The labs and facilities they used were quickly acquired by various states in an effort to comply with the new rules set forth by the Concord. As a result, the many nations of Ura quietly established themselves as a haven for transhumanism in an era of uncertainty. Today, Ura is home to dense concentrations of certain genomes.

Today, the political situation at Uranus is still chaotic. Internal conflict is increasingly unlikely, but there are growing concerns of influence beyond the system. The Jovians have expressed little economic interest in Ura, but the fact that the RFW is well established in the system has not gone unnoticed by the Galilean Federation. Likewise, while not directly aligned, there is concern that some transnational conglomerates of Ura are too deeply invested in the Kuiper Alliance to avoid intervention. If the Alliance began a conflict somewhere in Sol, Uranian countries would almost certainly participate by proxy.

The Cooperative Estates of Ura Herschelia

The Estates comprise a collection of dynastic councils, most of which have been commanded by some lineage of the original founders. Most of these began as corporate enterprises, literally developed for the administrative purposes of exploiting resources and manufacturing opportunities, plus all the auxiliary functions required to support those industries. Most notably, the cooperative includes:

  • The combined estates of Titania, including the Kyla and Heptic orbitals
  • The estates of Oberon and the Polar Light Coalition

Exoplanar Chandelia

A Federation exclusively made up of cities that suffer the inclination and retrograde tax of Ura. Membership includes six cities in high inclination or retrograde orbits (relative to Ura). Circumstances of logistics encouraged trade between these bodies. Therefore, they have steadily unified under the articles of the Exoplanar Chandelia, a multi-national, industry-backed cooperation. The articles govern trade, security and international policy between the beneficiary states. The beneficiary members of the Chandelia include:

  • The Allied Conservatis of Scarlett Summit, two high altitude, highly inclined cities built out of captured asteroids.
  • Maui Torquist, O’ahu Torquist and Kaua’i Torquist of the Aina Hoku, the Greater Pacific Hegemony
  • Oranmere and Drauger, the brother orbitals of the Chorus Graymire

Yettihk Reach

The Yettihk orbitals all share common ancestry with the cometary miners of early Ura settlement. Now, over a century later, the Reach reaps the benefits. Based on the mid-altitude orbitals of Kikkitoh and Falcyn Spinrealm, the Yettihk is what most out-of-sphere visitors think of when they imagine luxury in the Uranus system. Both Kikkitoh and Falcyn are lavishly wealthy, flaunting generations of comet-ice fortune across their interiors and investing in ostentatious public projects. Some equate the Yhettihk Reach to the Diamond Cities of Saturn, as the two factions share a similar niche in the public imagination. The Reach also funds a small, but highly capable security force that enforces doctrine in the mid orbits.

Bysphere Conglomerate

A commercial state that monopolizes most Uranian atmospheric Mining. The capitol headquarters is on the High Orbit Transella-Ura Torquist, but the Bysphere has facilities in almost every other settlement over Ura. The Conglomerate has substantial economic and public influence, despite governing no orbitals. Many official state governments are rightfully wary of the Bysphere.

The Bysphere Conglomerate operates one of the largest private militaries in Sol, the Bysphere Vipretta. The Vipretta enforces a defense contract with the Cooperative Estates of Ura Herschelia and the Constellation of Maxis Ura, sharing their port facilities. Additionally, the Vipretta offers servicing, training and security contracts to a number of Kuiper Alliance entities, thereby identifying as a total expeditionary force. As if the commercial actions of the Bysphere weren’t concerning enough for the rest of the solar system, the Vipretta recently began flight testing on the first of four high-fusion erakkers.

Republic of Miranda

The Republic was one of the first independent civilizations over Uranus, which was no insignificant feat considering how many corporate autocracies surrounded them at the time. A heavily developed nation, the Republic trades aggressively with all the commercial entities in and beyond the sphere of Uranus. A large percentage of all the goods imported to the Ura system are brought in through Miranda, with the exception of gas and helium. But the Republic is woefully aware that it’s influence in the Uranus sphere is hamstrung by the borderless entities governing many of their trade partners.

The Mirandi Space Force is a modern, capable military comprised of equipment mostly purchased from the RFW and a vast, domestically produced surveillance web. So capable is this network that it actually leases systems and information out to other nations, often making subtle alterations to the political situation over Uranus by simply passing and sharing information to the parties involved. The Republic is well aware that it could never survive a sustained military engagement by many of the other military forces at Uranus, therefore it must be aggressively indispensable to its allies and merely aggravating to it’s adversaries.

Confederacy of Ura Minor

The Ura Confederacy was established to unify the archipelago of non-moon habitats within the first ring of Ura. Though initially successful, the confederacy has shed member cities over the last century. Most of those who left simply became independent as cooperation dwindles. Today, two major orbitals remain within the confederacy, Tarromere Greatspool and Gekt’ri, both of which are agrarian states with very high agricultural output and oil synthesis.

Constellation of Maxis Ura

Often spoken as Maxis Group or the CMU, the Constellation of Maxis Ura incorporates several Umbrian territories into a council system that acts as both a legislative and judiciary body. Together, the High Mediation of Umbrial and the Equatorial Regency of Umbrial cooperate to form a formidable industrial base that performs as yet another cornerstone of commerce in the Ura system. Notably, Maxis Ura helped fund and create many of the trojan settlements of Ura, in addition to their own member cities, Na’teh Spinsphere and Terran Social, both in high Ura orbit.

The Constellation of Maxis Ura is noteworthy for having a state religion. Angli-Christa is highly encouraged among the citizenry. Though participation provides no quantifiable benefits within the citizenry, the church is effectively state funded.

Lata-Mor Chandelia

The Ring States of Ura. Lata-Mor comprises the three major orbitals of the ring and a collection of small, lower orbit cities. Small in population, the “Late Chandelia” is the latest organization to deviate away from commercial autonomy. Founded in 2304, the Chandelia governs by a parlimentary body in which both the citizenry and major entities are represented, including companies that operate both in and beyond of the Chandelia, worker unions and activist groups. The Chandelia is considered the second most democratic state over Ura, after the Republic of Miranda.

Lata-Mor shares a defensive pact with the Republic of Miranda, but does not have a significant military of it’s own.

Independent Parties of Ura

Like all the other gas giant systems, Uranus is orbited by numerous independent cities, unaffiliated with any of her domestic political bodies.

Space Security Guild

Plurality of Vindication is a large station in medium Uranian orbit that was acquired by the SSG in 2300. Previously a servicing station for commercial comet mining equipment, the facility suited the needs of the Guild quite well. Plurality now acts as a major Guild hub, comprising one of the five academies, a major administration complex, a command and control center and a major spacecraft retrofitting facility. As in most places, the Guild is welcomed over Ura and a healthy relationship with the Guild is seen as essential for any modern government in the Uranian system.

The Republic of the First World

Prospero, in high Ura orbit, acts as an RFW military hub. The many factions of Ura are more or less tolerant of RFW actions in the system, but Prospero is a frequent target of inquisitive flybys and sphere incursions, none-the-less
